Oftentimes, when we think of crafting and hobbies, our minds automatically think, “female”. Why is that? I would imagine because quite a bit of the crafting community is saturated with women. That being said, there are plenty of men out there that are artisans and craftsmen as well, we just don’t hear about them as much. Most of the “popular” hobbies and crafts are done by women. Why that is?
I have no answer for that but, with the world beginning to move in a different direction, there are many people seeking an alternative way of living, including men. But what’s out there for them? There may be some who have never tried their hands at any type of building and/or crafting.

It’s possible to find someone in your area that offers woodworking or maybe hand-forging workshops. Many are turning towards laser engraving and more. But what if you wanted to start on a smaller scale and test out a few things before making any decisions? What’s out there for you?

A few months ago, while looking into small business ideas, I stumbled across a very smart concept. Did you know there are many people out there who not only sell their handmade crafts but create starter kits for people to purchase as well? Two side hustles in one! If that isn’t the entrepreneurial spirit, I don’t know what is!

By offering everything needed, including the starter tool(s), to create a small project or two, it allows the customer to take a test run, if you will, to see if it’s something they may actually enjoy doing without overspending on a lot of materials they may never use again. On the flip side, what if they find out it’s something they love to do? Well by purchasing the starter kit, the customer now has beginner’s knowledge of the materials needed, how to create a product, and the basic tool(s) to get started.

While looking into this concept, a friend of mine told me about a company I had never heard of called Man Crates. Not only do they offer some pretty awesome and unique gift ideas for men, but they also sell…you guessed it, DIY crafting kits for men. Now, I’m in no way saying women wouldn’t enjoy these kits as well, I know I would, all I’m saying is they are geared towards projects many men would find interest in.
